6th April 2012
Last night we passed the deepest part of the ocean, in the world,
‘Challenger Deep”, which is around 11,000 m deep and is part of the Mariana
Channel.
We awoke to a mild day with light winds and by noon, we were in the
Pacific Ocean, 30nm off Gaferut Atoll which is on the northern part of the Yap
Group of Micronesian Islands. No land is visible and we are unlikely to see any
today. Water depth is 3200m.
There was a presentation on the Alaska Cruise options offered by
Princess, at 1.30pm which I went to whilst Carole was at Majong. Maybe we will
look at it in the future. The presentation was followed by the Sea Princess
talent show, which I managed to escape from, but the theatre was packed.
We went to a movie after lunch called “New Years Eve”, which turned out
to be a very good movie with a great cast. Otherwise, it has been a very
relaxing day.
The sunset tonight was very colourful and most likely resulted in far
too many photos being taken. We called home on the satellite phone, just to
check everything was OK, as we couldn’t get the sat phone to work in Guam.
Apparently due to some legal issue, you cannot use prepaid sim cards in the US,
so need to arrange a post paid sim if going to USA !!!
After dinner there was a deck party, with an Island theme, which was
probably the best function they have organized so far. They had live music and
dancing from our era around the pool area and it was very well attended. The
mild weather made it ideal for an outside function.
