At Sea

31st March 2012

On our way to Yokohama, conditions have deteriorated with increasing winds from the South overnight and a resulting build up in the seas.

During our morning walk, going down the windward side presented a reasonable challenge and as we turned around the stern of the ship, the wind literally blew you across to the other side. There is lots of sea spray and the rain looks likely.

By noon, we are off the east coast of the Island of Honshu in 2050m of water, with the wind blowing at 45 – 50 knots and seas 3-4 metres and intermittent rain.  The ship is getting bounced around quite a lot, and one of the scheduled lectures has been cancelled as the lecturer is seasick. The external decks have been closed off to passengers.

Carole headed off to mahjong, ( organized on all of the at sea days), and I went to a lecture on digital photography (pretty basic, but enlightening for some).

The weather was pretty ordinary all day and we are unsure what to expect in Yokohama, but the Captain assures us things will improve before we arrive. We have been very lucky so far, so lets hope he is right.
